Choosing The best Computer For Gamers?

I’m not expert on choosing computers, Usually it’s my father who buy my computers when I was younger but now I’m trying to learn about them.
What should I look for, when buying a computer, especially for gamers?

Dual core at least, preferably Intel, but AMD make some amazing Quad Cores
4GB RAM DDR2
500GB HDD MINIMUM
nVidia graphics – like the 9800GTX+, GTX260, GTX275, GTX280, GTX 285 or GTX295
